With the news of the Arlington shooting last week, a new year has begun.

While it is not yet clear whether the shooting deaths were connected, the timing could have been a good time to examine the state of gun control in the US.

With a new President in the White House and a new Congress looking to move on to the legislative agenda, there are questions that will need to be answered.

Here is a look at the most notable shootings in the country this year, and how those killings might be connected.

April 4: The killing of Robert L. Johnson, a 32-year-old white man, at a grocery store in Omaha, Nebraska, is being investigated as a hate crime.

Authorities said Johnson, who had been fired from a job at a local McDonald’s restaurant, had attacked another person with a knife.

He was killed after he was shot.

He had been released from the hospital earlier that day.

April 6: An Ohio man was found shot to death in a car outside a home in Dayton, Ohio, on April 6.

The man had been arrested on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon and was also shot.

April 10: A woman in Oklahoma shot and killed a 24-year old man at a home near her home, according to a news release from the Oklahoma City Police Department.

She also shot and wounded another woman inside the home.

Authorities identified the woman as a 17-year veteran of the Oklahoma Army National Guard.

April 13: A man was shot and critically wounded in Atlanta, Georgia, at an apartment complex after he tried to open fire on a group of men outside a bar, police said.

The shooting occurred after a fight broke out at the bar, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

The suspect fled the scene but was later captured.

April 15: A shooting in San Francisco, California, killed a man and wounded four others.

He later died at a hospital, according of the Associated Press.

April 17: A 29-year long-term unemployed man was killed in Los Angeles after he opened fire at a store and into a crowd outside a shopping mall, police told the Associated Post.

The gunman was later arrested.

April 19: A 32-old man shot and fatally wounded a 25-year year old woman in the parking lot of a bar and restaurant in Portland, Oregon, police and the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office said.

April 20: A police officer was killed and another man was injured after a man opened fire on police officers in the middle of a busy intersection in San Jose, California.

The shooter died after being shot by police.

April 22: A 26-year term inmate at a federal prison in Florence, Georgia was killed by a corrections officer during a shooting, according a statement from the prison.

The incident occurred when the inmate tried to steal a rifle from a prison guard.

April 24: A 23-year serving officer in a US Air Force Reserve unit was killed when he was struck by gunfire during a hostage situation at a military recruitment center in the town of Newburgh, New York, authorities said.

They added that the man was being held in a mental health facility.

April 26: A gunman opened fire inside a nightclub in Orlando, Florida, killing 49 people and injuring 53 others, according the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

April 28: A 33-year prison inmate in New York City was killed during a shootout with officers when a gunman opened fired at them during a robbery attempt, according CBS News.

The attacker fled the crime scene.

April 29: A 20-year jail inmate in Florida was killed as he tried, unsuccessfully, to flee a burglary at a New York prison, authorities told CBS News affiliate WABC.

April 30: A 34-year former prison guard was killed at the Texas Medical Center when he attempted to rescue a man who had fallen unconscious from a window, according Newsday.

April 31: A 49-yearold man was fatally shot during a gun battle between a group at a Texas Walmart, authorities in the state said.

He died on the scene, according in a statement.

May 1: An 18-year resident of a military hospital in Virginia was killed from a single gunshot wound during a standoff with a man, according police in the city of Winchester, Virginia.

A man who was a roommate of the man who killed the resident said he was with the man during the shooting and believed the shooter was trying to take his gun.

He said the gunman was the man’s roommate and that the gunman, who is believed to have a concealed carry permit, had not fired a shot at the man.

May 2: A Florida man was gunned down by a robber who stole his credit card from a grocery shop in Gainesville, Florida.

The victim, identified as 37-year senior Joseph Gaviglio, was in the store when the man entered the store and began firing.
